Rockin' Berlino! - Bericht von Tom Leitner

Tom Leitner © freestyledisc.org & Barbara Zonzin/Cota Rica Productions
15 teams competed at the German Freestyle
Championships in Berlin and after 4 rounds of
freestyle (2 prelim rounds on Saturday and semis
and finals rounds on Sunday) you would think the
players would be ready for a rest...think again.
After spending 2 days jamming inside a state of
the art gym with a sweet sound system, the
players decided to head to outside and jam for a
few more hours on a huge, perfect grass field
with nice wind after the finals concluded Sunday
afternoon.
The finals featured many new players including
Tobias Döhner (from Munich) teaming with Florian
Hess (from Karlsruhe) - who ended up taking 6th
place, Scandiland Champs Iwan 'Amsterjam' de Moor
and Jan 'just a little' Soerenson took 5th with a
new jammer Nico (from Zurich, Switzerland) and me
taking 4th.
Then came the final 3 teams....
Nobody expected Kolja Hannemann and Markus Hein
(from Berlin) to compete for the title but by the
end of their routine the crowd and the judges
were on their feet cheering the magical routine
they had witnessed. The pressure was now on the
last 2 teams to perform.
Fabio Sanna and Eleonora Imazio (from Trieste,
Italy) hit their well polished routine and played
almost flawlessly with Fabio peeling out some
huge combos and Eleonora playing with confidence
- once again, the crowd was sent into a frenzy.
There couldn't have been more pressure on the
favorites Hartmut Wahrmann and Boguslaw Bul (from
Dortmund) having to follow 2 great routines. But
this team had been working on their routine for
months and were ready for the challenge. With
only a few drops they hit several big combos but
even more impressive were their spectacular,
acrobatic co-ops and which helped them take the
German Championship leaving no doubt about the
who won.
Thanks to Arne and all the Berlin jammers for
being such gracious hosts and congratulations on
a memorable and inspiring event!
- Tom
